In a controversial statement, BJP MLA Pannalal Shakya advised students against pursuing degrees, suggesting instead that they open motorcycle puncture repair shops to secure a livelihood. Speaking at the inauguration of a 'PM College of Excellence' in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, Shakya stated, "Nothing is going to happen with these college degrees. Instead, open a motorcycle puncture repair shop to at least earn a livelihood." His remarks have drawn criticism for undermining the value of higher education.

The event, which took place amid the virtual inauguration of several colleges under the 'PM College of Excellence' initiative across Madhya Pradesh, was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Shah, highlighting the significance of the New Education Policy (NEP), emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to transform India into a developed nation by 2047. The NEP, according to Shah, aims to strengthen the foundation of education, enhance quality, and promote holistic development among students while preserving cultural values.
